The completed IFS looked pretty trick and rode remarkably well.
The rear suspension was revamped in a quarter of the time it took to change the IFS. After supporting the rear axle, the leaf spring backing plates and U-bolts are removed. Then, a 4-inch angled lift block was installed between the leaf spring pack and the axle tube on each side of the truck. Longer u-bolts were included in the kit to reattach the spring plates.

Finally, six-way adjustable MX6 monotube dampers replaced the factory units at both sides of the rear suspension. The completed lift is stout enough to fit a set of 37-inch tires and 20x9.5-inch wheels.

This truck was treated to a set of 20x10-inch KMC XD-Series Monster wheels in an aggressive black powder coat finish wrapped in Toyo Open Country All Terrain tires sized LT325/60R20 (35.3-inch equivalent).

Since the truck was now nearly a foot taller than stock, a set of Go Rhino bolt-on steps were added to each side of the chassis to make getting in and out of the truck easier.

Removing the old system began just after the catalytic converters. A pair of 14mm bolts held the head pipe together, and three different hangers were then pried apart. That's all it took to remove the old system. You don’t even have to cut it apart to take it off of the truck.

Once on the ground, this clamp is loosened and then the piping is separated by undoing this twist-lock fitting. The fitting is orientated towards the top of the tubing when it's installed in the truck so you won't find it unless you know it's there.

A side-by-side comparison showed the smooth mandrel bends of the Gibson system and the kinked corners of the stock parts. These smooth transactions translate into more power for the Ford.

The new muffler's head pipe also featured a larger-than-stock 3.5-inch diameter. Gibson's muffler design incorporates a straight through path for maximum flow with a louvered surround to reduced noise.

Next, the twin outlet pipes are slid into the exit side of the muffler, supported by a hanger located below the bed. Even with two pipes exiting under the bed, there was plenty of room between the factory spare tire heat shield and the exhaust to prevent any heat damage.

The installation was completed by tightening the head pipe flange and then adding clamps to each tubing section. A pair of 3.5-inch polished stainless steel exhaust tips terminate the end of the pipes and look a whole lot meaner than the factory pipe did.

The F-150 was treated to a new exhaust system and chassis dyno session at Gibson Performance Exhaust. The dyno revealed that the free-flowing system allowed the V-8 to produce an extra 20 lb-ft torque at its peak.

To finish off the Ford's transformation, we added a Precision black powdercoated billet grille to the leading edge. Precision's six-piece billet grille insert kit is available in several finishes.

Six 10mm bolts hold the factory grille shell to the hood of the F-150. They work in conjunction with a set of clips to retain the shell. Once the grille was removed from the truck it was time to prep the billet inserts for installation. Each insert receives several threaded studs of varying length. Then, the inserts were set in place from the front side of the grille. No cutting is necessary to fit them into the grille shell.

The side inserts are simply retained by a pieces of flat bar stock that sandwich the grille shell. 3/8-inch locknuts retain the assembly. The center inserts use speed clips to attach to the factory grille shell. To make the install easier, the grille shell was drilled out. Then, the provided screws are threaded through the insert bracket and into the speed clips behind the shell. Once the inserts were in place and aligned properly, the clips were removed from the hood, reattached to the grille shell, and then the entire assembly was reinstalled onto the truck. This install took less than an hour to complete.
