While using the Makita impact, all I kept thinking was, ‘Why didn’t I get one of these years ago?’ I’ve been busting lug nuts ...
We’ve all been there, at the dragstrip, truck show, track, or even the side of the road when a wheel and tire needs to be changed. Using a tire iron or torque wrench will get the job done most of the time, but in the process, your back is thanking you for all that extra effort spent busting loose the lug nuts. Makita’s new 18V ½-inch impact wrench (part number BTW450) is here to save the day, literally. Packing a monster-sized motor in a compact 10½-inch body, the lithium-ion battery-powered impact delivers a maximum of 325 lb-ft of torque. We told you that motor was a monster. That much power makes it a pit crew favorite around race shops, and can save tons of time when off-roading a tire needs to be changed. Other perks include an LED light to illuminate your work area, soft, rubber-coated grip handle, and Makita’s proprietary hammer and anvil mechanisms with hardened steel for superior driving power.

Our Honest Opinion
Using the Makita cordless impact is a breeze because it only weighs 7.5 pounds and it has a traditional rocker switch for forward and reverse—making it nearly dummy proof. We used it to bust lug nuts loose during several autocross events and found it to be incredibly durable, and with the larger LXT Lithium-Ion battery, the impact last all weekend long. Better yet, our kit came with two LXT batteries, a 30-minute charger, and even a canvas tool bag for easy storage and transport. Available at Summit Racing, the impact kit is only $399.95 and sure beats all the profanity associated with changing a flat tire. Simply put, we saved time and our backs by pulling the trigger on the Makita and letting it do the work for us.
