2002 Ford F150 - Luxo Lid

Tonneau covers are an essential custom-truck accessory. A lid adds good looks, trunk-like functionality, and it will help with gas mileage. Tonneau cover companies have been using gas shocks for support and lifting of the lid for decades, but Gaylord's Bed Covers has just released its new electric opening and closing feature to its already fully-loaded X-2000 lid. The new 150-pound electric actuators can open and close the fiberglass tonneau with a push of a button on the supplied remote. A great feature of the lid is the ability to stop the lid at any point during the opening or closing process, which is perfect for moments when it is raining and you need to throw things in the bed and get inside the truck. On a recent install, we added a Gaylord's X-2000 lid to an '02 F-150 SuperCrew with the 5-foot 5-inch bed. This lid was paint-matched, buffed to a shine, and included several options like the Speedstur wing and LED third brake light. All Gaylord's lids have carpeted linings on the inside of the lid and the X-2000 features a no-drill installation for easy removal of the lid. We drove to Gaylord's installation facility in Santa Fe Springs, California, where Dave performed the install in about an hour and a half. 	When we arrived at Gaylord's in Santa Fe Springs, California, the bed on our project SuperCrew was sprayed with Line-X, but had nothing keeping the cargo secure and out of the elements.
Dave had our lid ready and waiting for the install, complete with these 150-pound electric actuators that make opening and closing the lid as easy as pushing a button.	This shot gives you an idea of what comes with the Gaylord's X-2000, including the aluminum no-drill mounts, wiring for the third brake light and power, and all of the necessary hardware.
Dave began the install by mounting the tabs inside of the bedrails.	He then used a cordless driver to loosely mount the aluminum bracket to the rail. This was done to get the brackets in the ideal location before anything was tightened.
Here, you can see the scissor-style hinge that allows the X-2000 to pivot from the brackets.
