Ssshh! There's a new kid in town. Long a supplier of sound-damping materials to the automakers, HushMat has hit the aftermarket with its Ultra sound-damping product. HushMat and its ilk is a must for reducing road noise and other distracting vibrations. Like others of its kind, it looks like a mat and glues to the area to be sound insulated. No surface pre-treatment, cleaning, or heat is required before applying HushMat Ultra. It's specially formulated to provide 10 percent more damping material per square foot and can be bought in bulk or in a variety of kits tailored for floor, dash, door, speaker, and trunk locations. There Can Be Only OneOne channel, that is. Most amplifiers drive speakers and subwoofers, but not this one. The CDX10A Class X mono block amplifier from Clif Designs has only one purpose in life, to drive subwoofers. This amplifier accepts 12 to 17 volts RMS of power. At 14.4 volts, it cranks out 500Wx1 at 4 ohms, 750Wx1 at 2 ohms, and 1000Wx1 at 1 ohm. At 17 volts, that amplifier delivers 750Wx1 at 4 ohms, 1,350Wx1 at 2 ohms, and 1,800Wx1 at 1 ohm. Its frequency response ranges from 10 to 350 Hz. RCA input voltage ranges from 0.2 to 8 volts RMS, and the amplifier wields thermal, short, and overload protection. An LCD displays temperature and voltage, and a fully variable 24dB subsonic filter and low-pass filter. Variable bass boost, a remote gain module, RCA line-out for daisy chaining amplifiers, and bridgeability with another CDX10A make this a force to be reckoned with.
