For our second install, we tracked down the owner of a '07 Toyota Tacoma. You may recognize this truck from an earlier Fantastic Four story. The truck was looking good, but the owner was complaining about the horrible sound quality from her FM Modulator. She liked the convenience of charging it while playing music, but the constant cutting in and out of the music along with the static had her wanting a new solution.
Peripheral Car Audio was the maker of this story's interface and the '07 Tacoma kit was ordered from Crutchfield. We've used Crutchfield so many times before because of their great customer service, fast shipping, and product guarantee. The Peripheral kit came as an '06+ Asian manufacturer kit with three harnesses, a control box, and a 12-foot cable for the iPod hookup. Check out the story to see just how easy the installation was inside a custom '07 Tacoma.

Opening the box from Crutchfield revealed a Peripheral Car Audio Asian kit for '06-'07 cars and trucks. The kit came with three different radio cable connectors, the interface box, and the iPod cable. |
We began the install by using a plastic panel tool to pop loose the HVAC control panel. |

The piece simply popped out and we disconnected the wires in the back. |
With the HVAC panel out of the way, we had direct access to four 10mm bolts holding the radio in place. Using a cordless drill, the bolts were quickly removed. |

After a gentle tug, the large radio was pulled free. |
We disconnected the cables simply to give ourselves more room, but it's not necessary. The harnesses only plug into their designated slots, so they can't be reconnected the wrong way. Next up, we plugged in the appropriate Peripheral harness (cable #3). |
