When we received the $995 Rayzer kit, we found the light unit with its mounting bracket and carrying pouch, a radio transmitter that wirelessly activates the unit when the high beams are selected, a 12-volt adapter with power cable, and comprehensive instructions.
Coming up with one of the brightest (literally) ideas we've seen in a long time- the Rayzer RS is a one-of-a-kind, wide beam driving light invented in Europe, designed to help rally car drivers improve their nighttime driving performance. How do you provide a new spin on an old situation? The Rayzer RS is a new lighting package located inside the vehicle. A special mounting bracket holds the module tightly against the windshield and it is hardly visible from inside, positioned directly behind the rearview mirror. Compact in size but big on performance, the Rayzer RS comes into its own when the sun goes down. Wirelessly triggered by the high beam switch, the HID Xenon bulbs convert night into day. Providing three times more illumination than standard headlights, the lights in the Rayzer are rated at 3,000 hours or about five years of normal driving. Mounting was a snap. Using a docking plate that's attached to the windshield, the carbon fiber Rayzer module easily snapped in place behind the rearview mirror. Follow along while, Mike Ohren, ace electronics technician, accomplished the simple task of adding new lights and increased nighttime safety to our project truck.
We plugged our test light...
We plugged our test light into the headlight wiring harness and activated the high beam circuit until the tester lit.
Once we knew which wire controlled...
Once we knew which wire controlled the high beams, we connected the red wire from the transmitter using a splice connector. The black wire went to a ground.
The Rayzer was synchronized...
The Rayzer was synchronized with the high beams using a sophisticated wireless control system that is encrypted to prevent interference with other Rayzer units. Mike then placed the transmitter as close to the truck's cab as possible for best results. We attached it near the firewall using the peel-off adhesive backing.
We used blue masking tape...
We used blue masking tape on the windshield for an initial reference point. Once we knew the center of the windshield and had a horizontal line for reference, we held the Rayzer in place, adjusting the rearview mirror for the shortest person who would be driving the truck. With the Rayzer against the windshield on the inside, Mike used a white marker to mark the location of the mounting bracket on the outside of the glass.
Sticking the mounting bracket...
Sticking the mounting bracket to the windshield was simply a matter of cleaning the windshield thoroughly with the supplied wipe, then peeling the red protective tape and positioning the bracket between the marks.

The cable that connects the lighting unit to the 12-volt adapter was routed behind the headliner and down the A-pillar for a clean look.
