Kurt then fired up his Green... Kurt then fired up his Green Toyota laptop and uploaded the new TRD supercharger software to the Tundra's ECU. After just a few minutes, the engine roared to life... | ...and we went for a test... ...and we went for a test drive. | |
From The Driver Seat
We can state firsthand how the Tundra responded to the TRD Supercharger because we drove it several times over our stay at Green Toyota. The roots-style supercharger is flat-out awesome. Boost is instantaneous, and one hard smash of the throttle sends your back into the seat. Hold On! Our test drive was hampered by two things, however. First off, there was still some 87-octane fuel left in the gas tank and some of it circulated through the injectors causing some pinging, requiring us to back off the throttle. Second, our test truck was lifted 12 inches and rolling 40-inch tires. Because of the huge rolling mass and the 5,705lb curb weight, this particular truck virtually required the supercharger to return its performance back to factory. Now getting up to speed is a simple matter of throttle. Having driven a standard cab 5.7L V-8 Tundra with a TRD supercharger we can attest to its Lightning-killer stature as we suspect low 12-second e.t.'s on performance tires. Best part, it comes with a warranty when installed at a Toyota dealership.
