Going fast is like trying not to eat the last Oreo cookie in the jar, you just can't help it. Once you've experienced raw power, it lives inside of you and its only desire is to be unleashed every time you drive your truck. The new Tundra is quite a powerful truck from its Texas factory with 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque on tap. As much fun as 381 hp is, 504 hp is by far better and with the installation of the new TRD supercharger, your Tundra can easily be transformed into a rocket ship. The best part of this equation? Your money is well spent with a 3-year or 36,000-mile warranty when installed by a certified Toyota dealership. Going fast the reliable way, now we're talking.

Another great bonus in this TRD kit, everything is included right down to the washers and zip-ties. It's also 50-state CARB legal, so there will be no issues getting your truck smog certified. Whether daily driving the Tundra to work, towing your toy of choice, or lining up next to a sport truck at a stoplight, we were certain the Tundra would be more enjoyable to drive with over 500 hp and right at 550lb-ft of torque. People say they want a Tundra diesel, well with that much torque, who needs a diesel?

To see just how much fun could be had behind the wheel of a Toyota Tundra, we visited Green Toyota, in Springfield, Illinois, where General Manager Mylas Copeland teamed us up with installer Kurt Spann. As a Master ASE certified mechanic, we had little doubt in his abilities, but it was Kurt's enthusiasm for the TRD products that we appreciated the most. With our test '08 Tundra up on the lift, Kurt quickly began to install the TRD supercharger. A full day's work later, we went on a much anticipated test drive. For the results and installation of the supercharger, keep reading.

From The Driver Seat
We can state firsthand how the Tundra responded to the TRD Supercharger because we drove it several times over our stay at Green Toyota. The roots-style supercharger is flat-out awesome. Boost is instantaneous, and one hard smash of the throttle sends your back into the seat. Hold On! Our test drive was hampered by two things, however. First off, there was still some 87-octane fuel left in the gas tank and some of it circulated through the injectors causing some pinging, requiring us to back off the throttle. Second, our test truck was lifted 12 inches and rolling 40-inch tires. Because of the huge rolling mass and the 5,705lb curb weight, this particular truck virtually required the supercharger to return its performance back to factory. Now getting up to speed is a simple matter of throttle. Having driven a standard cab 5.7L V-8 Tundra with a TRD supercharger we can attest to its Lightning-killer stature as we suspect low 12-second e.t.'s on performance tires. Best part, it comes with a warranty when installed at a Toyota dealership.
