2001 Ford F150 Tightening Pinion
After tightening the new pinion with an impact, the new pinion seal was hammered into place.
2001 Ford F150 Using Sandpaper
By using sandpaper, Steve scuffed up the bolt side of the Precision gear.
2001 Ford F150 Sanding Disc
Steve prefers to use a sanding disc to add some extra scuff onto the new Auburn Gear limited slip. This will help the new ring bite harder once it is hammered on.
2001 Ford F150 Axle Gear Ring
With the new axle gear ring in place, Steve installed the diff bearings and Precision Gear ring onto the Auburn Gear limited slip.
2001 Ford F150 Diff Gears
It was time to slip the diff and gears into place.
2001 Ford F150 Perfect Fit
Steve only had to try twice to make the setup perfectly fit with the exact amount of shims necessary for the proper clearances. For this setup, a .285-inch shim was used.
2001 Ford F150 Axle Bearing Caps
The axle bearing caps were then tightened down and torqued properly.
2001 Ford F150 Meshing Perfectly
To make sure the pinion and gears were meshing perfectly, white lithium grease was used to mark onto the gear.

Rotating the setup allowed Steve to examine how the two were working together.
2001 Ford F150 Axle Retaining Clips
Once we were satisfied, the axle retaining clips were slid into place and so was the axle pin and bolt.

There you have it, a high-performance setup for the street or the strip.
2001 Ford F150 C&P Satin Finish Differential Cover
Steve then installed the new C&P satin-finish differential cover. This 8.8-inch Ford cover features lightweight aluminum construction, cooling fins, and a top and bottom drain plug for easy and quick maintenance.
