2008 GMC Yukon Buildup - FantasticSix
Next, he used an impact to remove the sway bar end link bolts and sway bar bushing mount bolts, then he removed the hollow, factory sway bar.
A metric gear wrench was used to bust loose the three nuts securing the strut-like mount to the upper shock mounts, then the shock and coil assembly was removed. An impact with a U-joint was the tool of choice to remove the upper control arm bolts, then he removed the upper control arms.
Belltech has a new and unique approach to lowering or even lifting '07 and later GM vehicles with the coilover shock style front end. By using these billet sleeves, it allows the end user flexibility and adjustability. By selecting different sized sleeves, the installer can select different levels of coil placement, and in doing so, alter the height.
The supplied instructions recommended using similar sleeves on each side, but after measuring the front end, the driver side was 3/4-inch lower in the front, and because of this, the passenger side received one less spacer, which allowed it to lower the front end level.
Ben used a coil compressor to remove the factory coil and to install the new shock inside the coil.
Before reassembly began, the solid front anti-sway bar, also from Belltech, was installed using the factory hardware.
This was the one step where most DIYs will not be able to perform. Aaron used an air chisel to remove the factory upper control arm bushings. He then cut three pieces of steel to use as sleeves for the pressing in of the new Belltech alignment bushings.
Aligning a lowered, coilover shock style frontend has always been difficult, so Belltech solved the issue by creating these alignment bushings. Notice the arrow indicated where they should be installed in relation to the upper control arm.
Ben was now ready to install the new Belltech shock and factory coil assembly. Note that the upper control arm was also installed.
