The Chevrolet Silverado SS may not have the same street cred as its predecessor, the mighty 454 SS, and certainly not as much as the Ford Lightning. But that didn’t stop Alex Cortez from building up his 2006 with a 410 cubic-inch LS stroker engine with 9.5:1 forged pistons. That compression doesn’t seem that radical for a naturally-aspirated engine these days, so Cortez may be planning on some forced induction in the near future. Who knows, maybe for a future Throwdown! Helping the big V-8 breathe is a Gibson cat-back exhaust. The transmission is a built 4L80E with a Stage 2 buildup. Power gets to the pavement through a 4.10 rearend and TrueTrac rear locker. Cortez’s truck stays planted with the help of a DJM 4/6-inch drop kit. Helping with the braking duties are EBC cross-drilled rotors.
