I went out to Pearsall, Texas on January 5th to take in the cold weather and the cool rides which were to be seen at the fourth annual Drag'n Down Your Block car show.
This year all profits went to Rorie Joslin, the 4 year old daughter of Brandon and Savannah Joslin of Severed Ties, Texas. She was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, which is a cancer of the white blood cells in the bone marrow.
The show was held at the Ice Plant Night Club owned by Luis Trevino Sr. and was sponsored by MadGear, B2D Customs, Slangin' Ink Tattoo, which was doing tattooing onsite. The Mother of Chrisroy Cancino of Slangin’ Ink also made yellow ribbons sold for donations for Rorie and her family.
The awards were for Top 50, Best of Truck, Best of Car, Best of Motorcycle, Under Construction, and The Rorie's Choice award, which was won by Mark Flores and his family from El Campo, Texas. The Flores’ also donated $200 to help Rorie’s family.
The weather began very cold and very rainy which led to a slow turnout, but once the clouds broke, the vehicles began rolling in by groups. The vehicles ran the gamut from truck, to motor cycle, to car, to classics and under construction. In all, there were 73 total entries. The show did not have the same attendance as last year, but weather played a good role in people's decision to not attend.
Overall, the sponsors, the people who registered, the spectators, and the volunteers who helped went over and above to help this family. They succeeded in their goal and I look forward to this show next year.
