The first of four events at the Nitto Tire 2013 Throwdown West Coast presented by McGaughys was the quarter mile. After copious burnouts and a practice run, each truck had the opportunity for three pedal-mashing, stress-relieving quarter mile runs on a cone-delineated runway. The best of three times was taken for each truck to determine the finishing order. Although all of the trucks ran smoothly, the bright red Chevy Silverado of Chris Payan was especially quick, running in the low 10s. The second of four events at the 2013 Throwdown West Coast performance truck invitational was the 600-foot slalom, where trucks weaved through six cones spaced every 100 feet over the vast Southern California tarmac. The third of four tests at the 2013 Nitto Tire Throwdown West Coast event was the stop box. As the name implied, the challenge concluded with a test of man and machine’s ability to brake quickly, accurately coming to a halt in the cone-allotted stop box. However, leading up to the stop box was a quick launch and sprint into a hairpin u-turn followed by a quick joggle between cones. The modified stop box tested turning radius and handling skills. The fourth and final action event of the 2013 Throwdown West Coast challenge was the 1.2-mile road course filled with high-speed straightaways and tricky chicanes that brutally exposed suspension setups.
