It’s good and bad when auto manufacturers come out with super-cool concept trucks. On the one hand, it satisfies our “wouldn’t it be cool if…” appetite for that perfect performance-based, truly fun production truck. It leaves us thinking, “Manufacture, you get it. You get what we want.” On the other hand, these concept trucks leave us partially disgruntled because we won’t see them come to fruition. A concept truck is just that; it’s an idea, theory, notion, thought. It sounds grim to say, but we’ll never be able to go to our local Chevy dealer and pick up this 420 horsepower EcoTec3 6.2-liter V-8 regular cab 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Cheyenne Concept truck equipped with Camaro Z/28 flare and various carbon fiber replacement pieces. We’ll never be able to light up the high-performance tires wrapping the charcoal-painted 19-inch Camaro Z/28 aluminum wheels on a test drive, and we’ll never hear the roar of the Borla exhaust on the open road. We won’t feel the comfort of the Recaro sport seats as we test the Camaro Z/28 Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. We won’t experience the power-to-weight ratio of a truck that’s lighter (about 200 pounds) and more powerful (65 more horsepower) than a 5.3-liter regular cab Silverado. No, such a concept truck will be preserved for the 2013 SEMA Show. But that’s okay; it still satisfies. And luckily for us, at least we’ll be able to see it this week.
