Chinese knockoffs of popular western-brand products have become so legendary, that it has created its own meme and acronym, "KIRF" or "Keepin' it Real Fake." You can add one more to that category with the Kawei K1 pickup. Although Chinese companies previously have denied outright copying even in the face of blatantly obvious knockoffs, Kawei seems to proudly proclaim the inspirations of the K1's styling, even showing an inset photo of the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor.

Another one of the K1's inspirations is Land Rover, with Kawei's website proudly stating, "The spelling words in front of the engine and heat dissipation on fender use the Land rover [sic] style for references." Although likely to result in an intellectual property lawsuit in international courts, Kawei gives the Raptor mad props for its style, saying "In lamps design K1 is different from Ford Raptor, but still in pickup market, K1 shows its dignity for its lamps design."

Although somewhat visually similar to a Ford F-150, and to the Raptor particularly, the K1 is closer in size to the Toyota Tacoma or the new Chevrolet Colorado, with a wheelbase of 3500 mm, or 137.8 in, compared to a real Raptor SuperCrew's wheelbase of 145.2 in.

And if you're expecting burly V-8 power comparable to a real Raptor's 6.2L, 411-hp V-8, it's probably best to lower your expectations. The two available engines are a Mitsubishi 2.4L gasoline I-4 making 141 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque or a FAW 3.2L diesel making 106 hp and 181 lb-ft.

There are many forbidden-fruit trucks sold overseas we'd like to see in the U.S., such as the Volkswagen Amarok and T6 Ford Ranger. The Kawei K1 is not one of them.
